Range Murata (村田 蓮 爾, 1968 -) is an illustrator originally from Osaka, known for mixing different genres in his art, such as anime and Art deco. Although he is known for his work on Last exile and Blue Submarine no. 6, their work is very diverse.
Range Murata began his career working in the video game industry in 1993. His first major project was the art design of Power Instinct 2 andGroove on fight, two fighting games of the company Atlus. After that he worked as an illustrator for various magazines such as Keirakuten and Ultrajump.
In 1996 he retired from the video game industry to work as freelancer, and presented the illustrated book Like a Balance Life.
In 1999 he published his book in full color Flat. Despite having moved away from video games, he collaborated for some projects such as Spy fiction for Playstation 2 in 2003.
Among his most relevant works is Rule and Futurythm, and was considered in 2006 the artist of the year by the magazine Seiun Award.
