If you travel to Japan and you go to Nagano, one of the most attractive points that you should visit is Jigokudani. This region is famous for its mountainous geography and spectacular landscapes, but the most characteristic thing is its monkey park.
This region is at a considerable height, so it is covered with snow for four months of the year. Jigokudani, also known as the Hell valley (for its thermal waters from which steam emanates in the middle of the -10ºC cold) it is the home japanese macaque.
The greatest attraction of this place is to be able to contemplate these monkeys taking a bath in the onsenfrom the mountains. The park has an artificial pond near the entrance, and upon arrival you can already see groups of monkeys heading to the onsen. They are already used to the presence of humans, so they don’t mind taking a bath.
If you plan to visit the park, you should take into account some rules. First of all, you cannot feed the monkeys, or go near to touch them. You cannot take pets with you. It is allowed to take photos and record them. The park hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from April to October and from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from November to March. The dates on which it is recommended to visit the park for the show is between January and February.
